Where Are the Jobs? — AI & The Future of Work!
The future of work isn’t only about what machines can do. It’s about what human beings and communities must become better at doing.
For generations, many of us were handed a familiar career plan:
Get the education. Learn the job. Work hard. Build experience. Move up. Retire.

It was never quite that simple—especially for Black workers and families—but at least it gave people a map.
Now the map is changing.
Artificial intelligence can write, summarize, analyze data, generate code, create images and assist with decisions. Companies are redesigning jobs and shrinking or restructuring teams. Entry-level opportunities are changing. Experienced professionals are wondering whether the expertise they spent decades building will carry the same value tomorrow.
Parents are also trying to determine what to tell their children when technology may change faster than schools can update their curricula.
So, this week on Soul Thursdays, we’re asking the question many people are quietly carrying:
Where Are the Jobs?
Segment One: Dr. Daryl D. Green
Our featured guest, Dr. Daryl D. Green, is a business strategist, educator, author and community advocate who has spent more than 27 years working across engineering, business, federal leadership and higher education.
As a former dean of the Langston University School of Business and creator of The Nehemiah Blueprint in the Age of AI, Dr. Green brings a practical perspective on workforce disruption, career reinvention and economic opportunity.
Together, we’ll explore:
Are jobs actually disappearing—or are they being broken into tasks and rebuilt?
Which workers are most vulnerable during this transition?
What does reinvention look like after 40, when you have a mortgage, a family and decades invested in your professional identity?
Which skills become more valuable precisely because AI is becoming more capable?
What should workers, students, parents and educators do during the next 90 days?

Dr. Green’s message is not that machines will save us—or destroy us.
His message is:
People rebuild the future, not machines.
Segment Two: Humans After the Hype
After my conversation with Dr. Green, we’ll open the room for a guided Soul Thursdays community discussion.
Because “Will AI take my job?” may not be the only—or even the best—question.
Is AI delivering what the marketing promises?
Companies are investing heavily in AI, but putting the letters “AI” on a product does not automatically make it useful.
The real questions are:
Does it reduce costs?
Does it improve quality?
Does it save meaningful time?
Does it help people make better decisions?
Does it solve a problem—or create another layer of complexity?
I’ll ask the community:
Where have you seen technology introduced to make work easier, only to make the process more complicated?
What if the future belongs to problem-solvers—not job titles?
The traditional career ladder looked something like this:
Degree → Job Title → Promotion → Retirement
The emerging career journey may look more like this:
Skills → Problems → Projects → Reinvention → New Skills
That leads to one of the most important questions of the evening:
If your current job title disappeared tomorrow, what problem would people still pay you to solve?
Your title may change. Your tools will almost certainly change. But your ability to understand people, recognize patterns, make decisions and solve meaningful problems can travel with you.
What is the human advantage?
I recently encountered a framework that gave me new language for something I have felt for years.
The question isn’t only, “Can AI do it?”
Whether we’re talking about work, education or creativity, we should also ask:
What human capability should remain after AI helps with the task?
The goal should not be to reject AI—or surrender our thinking to it.
The goal is to use AI in ways that strengthen human capability instead of quietly replacing the thinking we need to develop.

You do not need to have all the answers. Neither do I.
But we do need better questions—and a community where we can work through them together.
We grow together.
